Changes by Version,
Last Minute Changes
===================
Summary of Changes in CompuShow Version 8.50:
============================================
- New graphics formats: 24-bit BMP, 24-bit PCX, 24-bit IFF/LBM, 12-bit HAM
and 16 color IMG.
- New smooth-motion software mouse cursor on EGA/VGA (with thanks to Andy
Hakim!) Select from eight software shapes or the hardware cursor.
- Improved file Copy, Rename, and Delete routines! New file Move function!
Delete, Copy, Rename, or Move ONE FILE OR ALL TAGGED FILES! Rename files to
a different sub-directory on the same drive (with DOS 3 and above). File
Move function copies the file and then does a delete ONLY IF the copy was
error-free. Rename, Copy, and Move use full wildcard specifications.
- Rescale uses higher resolution 360x480x256 mode on standard VGAs.
- Improved directory routines are twice as fast and use less memory. Sub-
directories appear on-screen, even with a file mask (eg. *.GIF).
- Improved pop-up boxes and mouse functions. Log box shows ShfF2, CtlF2, and
AltF2 sub-directories (clickable). Mask box shows default ("*.*") and last
non-default mask (clickable). Tagged files "slide show" box (enhanced
program) shows 0..9 seconds (clickable).
- In the enhanced program, Alt-S writes a Slide Show Script for one file or
all tagged files.
Version 8.51: Will be skipped, as this was used on a known counterfeit!

What's OLD (and possibly dangerous)!
====================================
Since December 1989, we've seen a number of programs claiming to be version
"8.01", "8.31", "8.51", etc. appear on electronic bulletin boards. Generally
these counterfeits have been "hacked" from version 7.0 or 7.2, with the
documentation and on-screen version number changed:
- This supposedly "new" version usually has 1989 file dates.
- A hack of version 7 will not have multi-screen help, or any of the other
changes made to CompuShow since 1989!
Our best guess is that these counterfeit programs are a direct result of
BBSes that limit downloads based on "credit" for uploads. Evidentally, some
people are so desperate to get credit that they'll "hack together" a
counterfeit program when they don't have anything legitimate to upload.
Apparently the only malicious intent is to disappoint anyone who's looking
for the latest version. However, there have been some (unconfirmed) reports
of VIRUSES attached to some counterfeit programs, so it's best to play it
safe! If you find a program that fits the above description, by all means
ERASE IT IMMEDIATELY and inform the SysOp that it's a counterfeit program,
and others should be notified that it may be destructive.
You can always find the latest legitimate version of CompuShow on CompuServe
(GO PICS, LIBrary 3, CSHOWA.EXE), on GEnie (the IBMPC roundtable, library
14, CSHOWA.ZIP), and on the One-Stop Bit BBS (602-282-9035).
